Ingrid Michaelson Everybody mp3

A huge fan of her past work, I've been anticipating the release of this album for months. My expectations were incredibly high, yet somehow, Michaelson has managed to exceed them. With this album she has finally solidified her sound, and with access to higher production values, she has made good use of the studio.

This album is not over-produced, as we often see happen to many artists like her, but is excellently orchestrated on every track to achieve an effect that is simultaneously intimate and grand. These sounds would fill the largest concert hall, yet also be very in place at your local coffee shop. This is what sets this album apart from her previous work "Girls & Boys." Here, we such a much broader variety of sounds and musical colors; however, they are all distinctly Michaelson, tied together by her unique, sultry vocal quality.

All songs seem relatively simple lyrically, but upon closer examination you'll find that the lyrics actually work on many levels, using beautiful metaphors and often idiomatic phrases to achieve a deep sort of representational meaning. For example, in the stunning ballad Are We There Yet, Michaelson sings of silver linings in clouds and images of a peaceful home to create a sense of longing for a non-present simple love. Though lyrics often repeat, they do so out of necessity, reaching as deep as they can with their poignant messages of hope, love, and loss.

While there isn't a bland track on the album, standouts include Soldier, Everybody, Are We There Yet, Sort Of, The Chain, Mountain and the Sea, Locked Up, and Maybe. An absolute must have for your collection, "Everybody" may just become one of your favorites. In just a day, it has quickly become one of mine.

Five Finger Death Punch War Is The Answer mp3

These guys can be brutal, melodic and yet pull it all together in the same song for some kick ass high energy metal. Some people might complain about their 3 "soft" songs, but hey Ivan is a killer singer and it shows. Even the soft songs are great. No one complains about Corey Taylors softer songs.
Dying Breed- Perfect opener Hard, heavy and brutal 10/10
Hard to See- Another radio friendly song thats heavier than most radio songs Perfect single 7/10
Bulletproof- Hard yet melodic chorus 8/10
No one gets Left Behind- Much like death before Dishonor 8/10
Crossing Over- First slow song shows much of Ivans great voice. 9/10
Burn It Down- Back to hardcore this song is brutally heavy. 10/10
Far From Home- Second slow song, very good 8/10
Falling into Hate- Much like falling into love- its the exact feeling many of us have had 10/10
My Own Hell- Slower style. Great mix not soft but its a versatile song for the mix 7/10
Walk Away- 3rd slow song. Again the song writing and Ivans voice cant be dismissed 8/10
Canto 34- Instrumental that really lets the guitarist rip it up. 9/10
Bad Company- Really a cover? Unexpected yet Bon Jovi would be proud of their version. 8/10
War is the Answer- Back to machinegun drumming, screaming and hardcore metal this is the perfect closeout song 10/10
All in all this album is a great follow up to their debut. Another album I can listen to from song one to 13 and not skip a single song.

Ellipse Imogen Heap mp3

After following the video blog for months, my hopes were sky high. This album delivers on every possible criterion!

The resemblance to Speak for Yourself is uncanny - Ellipse is not a revolution - but if it is not a pinnacle, it IS a peak of success. She has refined her style down to necessities; some of the sounds in Speak for yourself were disorganized and crowded. In this album, Imogen only uses what is necessary to convey her musical ideas.

I would discuss highlights of the album but really there are none - each song has something to offer, and each song stands on its own. To experience true aural artistry, listen to this masterpiece!

A Fine Frenzy Bomb in a Birdcage mp3

A Fine Frenzy's 2007 debut album "One Cell In The Sea" was well received and loved by many, and so the anticipation for "Bomb In A Birdcage" was enormously high. I was overjoyed to find this album is true to the sound that made the first album so very good, just without as many slow moments.

If you like A Fine Frenzy and you think you'd like an album which is a bit more energetic than the first, you'll love this. I always thought that her first album was too slow in the second half, so I do absolutely adore this, and consider it an improvement overall. Of course "One Cell In The Sea" has some classics that can't be topped, but I would still prefer to listen to "Bomb In A Birdcage".

One thing to note is that the exclusive MP3 tracks from Amazon and iTunes are both INCREDIBLY good songs; not filler at all. I wish very much that both were included on all versions. Do yourself a favor and find a way to get them if you can. You will like the album even more with those gems tacked onto the end. The iTunes song is called "Coming Around" and the Amazon one is "Silent War". It really saddens me to think that not everyone who buys this is going to hear these songs.

Arctic Monkeys Humbug mp3

Okay, so you put this cd in. After your first play through of it, your immediate thoughts are, "Wow, the Arctic Monkeys have significantly put a darker edge on their music." This is true: this cd is no where near their first two. Half of the songs on here remind me of The Doors.

After multiple play throughs, this cd will grow on you substantially. The Arctic Monkeys talent really shines through on this cd, showing they can play darker, more edgy songs and still get your mind hooked on them.

Matt Herold has amazing drumming like always through out all songs--preferably "My Propeller", "Crying Lightning", and "Pretty Visitors". Do not hesitate to pick this cd up. You may see sudden change at first, but I promise this cd will grow on you and show as much excellence as their other two. It is fantastic!!

Phish Joy mp3 downloads

A diverse and beautiful album with songs from all band members except for Fishman. If you love Phish, you already know all the songs since they played them on summer tour 2009 before the official release, if not, this is a very accessible introduction to one of rock&roll's greatest bands ever ...
P.S. True Phish fans should get the Joy Deluxe Edition (incl. a second CD plus Live DVD) which is available only at Drygoods!

Yo La Tengo Popular Songs mp3

Wow, its hard to believe that Yo la Tengo have made yet another really good album. For Yo La Tengo fans, this is an essential purchase. Like "I'm Not Afraid of You....," this album contains a wide range of styles, from droning guitar workouts (the fifteen minute "And the Glitter is Gone") to Motown lite("If its True"), and, of course, the more mellow songs with hushed vocals.

And after 20 years, they are still experimenting. Opener, "Here to Fall" sounds like nothing else in their catalog, some sort of space age soul-prog - and it actually works.

This album is similar to "I'm Not Afraid of You.." but its a little better and more quiet. I'm fan of almost all of YTL's music, and here they pull off the usual variety with extra confidence. Growing old has made them better, not more boring. Few rock and roll acts manage that trick.
